Amherst’s Juneteenth Celelbration: Get Free: A Power Boost to the Soul

The Black Business Association of Amherst Area (BBAAA) in collaboration with Sankofa Gumbo invite the public to a family-friendly, free event to celebrate the sixteenth annual Juneteenth Jubilee on Thursday, June 19, 202 at St. Brigid’s Church, 43 North Prospect Street from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. The event will feature live musical performances, poetry, dance, vendor marketplace, educational tabling by community partners, keynote speaker, kids activities, annual youth excellence award, book signing session by local authors, black cultural cuisine from Henryne Catering and African Bowl restaurant.
Founder and President of the Sankofa Gumbo organization, Dr. Amilcar Shabazz stated “this Juneteenth marking the historic moment on June 19, 1865, when freedom was made a reality beyond rich white men, we are gathering in a power boost to the soul. Our whole purpose is to feel the vibration of what it means to get free.”
The Black Business Association of Amherst Area (BBAAA) President, Pat Ononibaku stated, “We are grateful to the Amherst Cultural Council for supporting our Juneteenth program”. We welcome sponsorships and donations from organizations, businesses and individuals to ensure we have an exciting, meaningful and memorable community celebration.”
