The Town of Amherst is seeking members for the Cable Television Advisory Committee (CTAC), an ad hoc town committee responsible for advising and assisting with the upcoming license renewal process with Comcast, the town’s current cable operator. Town Manager Paul Bockelman invites Amherst residents to participate in shaping the future of cable services in our community by serving on this important committee.
Interested residents should submit a Community Activity Form: amherstma.gov/CAF
Applications will be reviewed beginning September 2nd.
Every 10 years, the Town of Amherst conducts a comprehensive review and renewal of its cable license to ensure community needs are met and service standards maintained. Currently, Comcast is the sole provider holding a franchise agreement to provide cable services within the Town of Amherst. The CTAC is formed to support and facilitate this renewal process.
“The cable television landscape is changing rapidly,” said Town Manager Paul Bockelman. “We are seeking residents who are eager to dig into the world of cable television and anticipate the needs of the Town over the next decade. The key skill is an eagerness to learn the industry and willingness to read documents in order to provide well-reasoned advice.”
The CTAC will advise the Town Manager on Comcast’s performance under the existing license and assist in gathering public input about the community’s future cable-related needs and interests. Specifically, the committee will support the ascertainment phase of the license renewal process and help prepare an Ascertainment Report by December 31, 2025.
During this process, the committee may hold a public hearing, conduct a Town-wide survey, meet with relevant stakeholders, and/or review existing documents. This committee and renewal process has no role in determining cable television prices.
The CTAC will be composed of five (5) members including the Town of Amherst Information Technology Director and four (4) residents appointed by the Town Manager. Committee service will conclude upon submittal of a final report, no later than April 15, 2026. No specific qualifications are required beyond an interest in the town and its cable television service.
