The Ad Hoc LGBTQIA+ Caucus of Amherst invites the commuity to join them in welcoming LGBTQIA+ Amherst Regional middle schoolers back to school and letting them know their community stands with them!
Returning to school can be an exciting time but it can also cause anxiety, especially for some LGBTQIA+ students. Things might feel especially challenging this year as students anticipate the potential return of a staff member who has caused harm to LGBTQIA+ people.
Community-members will be gathering outside the Amherst Regional Middle School at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 27 to welcome students as they arrive at school. The caucus will have rainbow umbrellas and signs of solidarity and support.
This is not a protest or a rally, but an opportunity to offer love and solidarity to kids during a vulnerable time.
Suggested messaging for signs:
Rainbows! Rainbow flags! Trans Flags! Signs with sparkly or colorful lettering!
“Welcome Back!”
“You are not alone”
“You are Fabulous”
“We support LGBTQIA+ students”
“Love”
“Solidarity”
“Kindness is everything”
The caucus hopes to see lots of parents, friends, allies, and community members there.
