2025 Amherst Town Election: Information & Reminders

The Amherst Town Election is on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Voters must be registered to vote in Amherst and have the options to either vote-by-mail, vote absentee, vote early in-person, or vote on election day. See below for details. 

Voter Registration

  • Check your voter status.
  • The deadline to register to vote or make changes is Friday, October 24 by 5:00 pm in person at the Town Clerk’s office, or midnight online. 
  • If you have a Massachusetts driver’s license or identification card, you may register to vote online at RegisterToVoteMA.com.

Candidate Statements
All candidates are invited to submit Candidate Statements to the Town Clerk’s Office. The purpose of these statements is to help inform voters about the candidates who will appear on the ballot. These statements include a text-only statement not to exceed 900 characters and a URL for the candidate’s website, if they have one.  

  • Candidate Statements must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2. 
  • On Monday, October 6, all submitted Candidate Statements will be published on the Candidate Statements website in the same order as they will appear on the election ballot.  
  • The order in which names of candidates appear on the ballot for each office shall be determined by a drawing, by lot, conducted by the Town Clerk. The drawing will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, in the First Floor Meeting Room of Town Hall (4 Boltwood Ave). This is open to the public.   

Vote-By-Mail

  • Voters must submit an application annually to receive a mail-in ballot.  If you haven’t already applied, you can do so online at MailMyBallotMA.com.
  • The deadline to submit an application is Tuesday, October 28 by 5:00 p.m.   
  • Return your ballot by mail, in person to the Town Clerk’s office, or drop it in the election drop box (located outside the Main St. entrance of Town Hall). 
  • Ballots must be received by the close of polls or 8:00 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted. 
  • You can track the status of your mail-in ballot at TrackMyBallotMA.com
  • Ballots are expected to arrive in voters’ mailboxes the week of October 20.  

Vote Absentee
Voters may apply for an absentee ballot if unable to vote at their polling place on the day of the election due to: 1) absence from Amherst during the hours in which the polls are open, 2) physical disability which prevents going to the polling place or the inability to stand in line for long periods of time, or 3) religious belief. 

Applications for a mailed absentee ballot must be made in writing and must include the voter’s name, voting address, voting precinct, the address to which the ballot should be mailed, contact information (phone number or email address), and the voter’s signature. 

  • The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, October 28 by 5:00 p.m. 
  • The deadline to vote with an absentee ballot in-person at the Town Clerk’s office is Monday, November 3 by 12:00 noon. Ballots are expected to become available for in-person absentee voting the week of October 20.  
  • Town Clerk’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   

In-Person Early Voting
In-person early voting will take place from Monday, October 27 through Friday, October 31 in the First Floor Meeting Room of Town Hall. Times are as follows: 

  • Monday, October 27 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, October 28 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, October 29 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • Thursday, October 30 8:00 am to 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, October 31     8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Election Day Voting

  • Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4.  
  • Find your polling location at WhereDoIVoteMA.com
  • Attention Precinct 1-A Voters – Remember that your polling location has moved to the North Amherst Library, 8 Montague Rd.  
  • Any voter who has returned a vote-by-mail ballot that has been accepted cannot vote on Election Day. 

Important Dates

  • Monday, October 6 – Candidate Statements will be published online. 
  • Friday, October 24 – Last day to register to vote (5:00 pm in-person). 
  • Tuesday, October 28 – Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot (5:00 pm in-person) 
  • Tuesday, November 4 – Election Day for the Amherst Town Election. Mail-in ballots must be returned by 8:00 p.m. to the Town Clerk’s office or inserted into the Ballot Drop Box (Main St. entrance of Town Hall).
