Running For Elected Office In Amherst: Nomination Papers Available July 1

Nomination papers for Councilor-at-Large, District Councilors, School Committee, Housing Authority, Elector of the Oliver Smith Will, and Jones Library Trustee will be available at the Town Clerk’s office beginning July 1, 2021. All town office positions will serve for two years.

Any registered voter in Amherst is eligible to run for all offices with the exception of the District Councilor, where you must be a registered voter in the district from which the nomination is sought.

Councilor-at-Large, School Committee, Housing Authority, Elector of the Oliver Smith Will, and Jones Library Trustee nomination papers must be signed by at least 50 registered voters in Amherst.

District Councilor nomination papers must be signed by at least 25 registered voters in Amherst, all of whom must be from the district in which the nomination is sought.

Candidates are advised to collect more than the requisite number of signatures to ensure they meet the number of certified signatures required to be placed on the ballot.

Nomination papers for all of the above offices must be filed at the Town Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Amherst residents must be registered voters by Wednesday, October 13, 2021 to vote in the November 2, 2021 Biennial Town Election.
