The Board of the Amherst Housing Authority is elected.  In the coming election, four seats are open, but  as of August 30, only one person (an incumbent) is standing for election.

The Amherst Housing Authority oversees both public housing in the Town and mobile vouchers (aka Section 8 certificates).  To learn more go to the website.  [https://amhersthousingauthority.org]. This is an important responsibility that complements the work of the Affordable  Housing Trust.

In order to stand for election someone would have to request nomination papers from the Amherst Town Clerk.  Fifty valid signatures are required to become a formal candidate.  Most people collect 60 on the chance that some signatures would not be validated by the Town Clerk’s Office.  The best place and time to do this is on a Saturday at the Amherst Farmer’s Market on the Town Common from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Nomination papers must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on September 14.
