The Academy of Music theater is pleased to present poet Denice Frohman on stage for an intimate performance on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. and introducing young poets Marissa Perez and Rio Santos. 

Denice Frohman is a poet, educator, and performer from New York City. She is a Canto Mundo Fellow, former Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion, and National Association of Latino Arts & Cultures grant recipient. Her poems have appeared in The Adroit Journal, Nepantla: An Anthology for Queer Poets of Color, Women of Resistance: Poems for a New Feminism, and garnered over 10 million views online. She’s featured on national and international stages, including The Apollo, the White House, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and over 200 colleges and universities. 

Marissa Perez is the 97th Glascock Poetry Prize recipient. Her work has appeared in Huizache Magazine of Latino Literature and is forthcoming in As It Ought to Be Magazine and others. She is working on a lyric prose manuscript as a part of her Hampshire College senior thesis. 

Rio Santos is Northampton’s first-ever youth poet laureate. A ninth-grade student at Northampton High School, Rio loves to learn and is passionate about social justice. Along with their younger sister, Rio divides their time between Hadley and Northampton. They have played the violin since first grade but have been writing poems for even longer. Their interests include astrophysics, fiction-writing, singing, song-writing, horseback riding, birds, reading, and digital drawing. 

Tickets are $20 (plus applicable fees). Seating is limited.
