The Amherst community is invited for coffee and conversation with Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman and School Superintendent Dr. Xiomara Herman (Dr. Xi) on Friday, September 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Large Activity Room of Bangs Community Center, 70 Boltwood Walk.  The event is free and open to all.

Dr. Xi began leading the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District in July 2024. There are many things happening in the school district that Dr. Xi will share and answer questions about, including the restructuring of Amherst grades K-6, the appointment of new administrative leaders, and new policies/programs that help promote a transparent, safe, and student-centered environment.

The Amherst-Pelham Regional Public School system educates a diverse population of approximately 2,790 students, including native speakers of more than 38 languages. Three elementary schools are located in the town of Amherst and one in the town of Pelham. The middle school and high school are located in the town of Amherst, and draw students from the towns of Amherst, Pelham, Leverett, and Shutesbury.

The “Cuppa’ Joe with Paul” events are monthly and rotate locations around town. Each time, Paul is joined by a different town department head or official who provides insights into their area of focus. Residents and others are welcome to share their concerns, offer suggestions, or just get to know each other.
