On Tuesday March 10, at 2:00 p.m., teachers, students, staff, and community members are planning to join together to encircle Shutesbury Elementary School, 23 West Pelham Rd. and urge Governor Maura Healey and legislators on Beacon Hill to address the current fiscal crisis faced by rural school districts. The goal: to increase funding for rural schools to the full $60 million recommended by the legislature’s own Rural Schools Commission. Our message is simple: “Shutesbury Needs Rural School Aid and We Need It Now.”
Shutesbury is one of four towns comprising the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District, which administers Amherst Regional High School and Amherst Regional Middle School.
This event is part of Rural Schools Action Week March 9-13. Throughout the week, rural school districts, teachers, students and their supporting communities across Massachusetts will take part in grassroots actions to focus attention on the plight of rural schools and demand greater equity in the allocation of state education aid.
