Hadley Selects Amherst Planner Nate Malloy as Next Town Administrator
Nate Malloy
The Hadley Select Board voted unanimously this week to hire Amherst’s Assistant Director of Planning and Economic Development, Nate Malloy, as Hadley Town Administrator. Police Chief Michael Mason has served as temporary Town Administrator since Carolyn Brennan retired in September 2024.
Malloy has worked in the Amherst’s Planning Department since 2008, working as the staff liaison to the Planning Board and developing revisions to the Zoning Bylaw. He was instrumental in the creation of the University Drive Overlay zone that will permit denser housing along University Drive south of the UMass campus.
The starting date for Malloy in Hadley depends on the finalization of a contract agreed upon by him and the Select Board.
In an email to the Indy, Malloy said, “I am excited for the opportunity to work with Hadley, including their Select Board and community. Although the Board has voted to appoint me, there are still contract negotiations and other processes that need to be finalized before the position could be accepted by me or the Board. This step may take a few weeks.”
Malloy was one of three finalists interviewed for Hadley’s Town Administrator last spring, but the position was left unfilled while the town decided on whether or not to have a Proposition
2 1⁄2 override. The $2 million override failed last fall, and the Select Board is leaning toward putting it to the voters again this spring.
