Read & Resist Fest is Back for Its Third Year

The Third Annual Read & Resist Fest will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Interlink Publishing, located at 46 Crosby Street in Northampton, Massachusetts. Masking is required. (Rain date: October 4, 2026)

Interlink Publishing—the only Palestinian-owned book publisher in the United States—will once again host this outdoor social justice and literary festival dedicated to collective liberation. The festival will feature a book sale, more than twenty queer, trans, and/or BIPOC vendors, children’s activities, all-ages workshops, teach-ins, music, and food. Attendees can also participate in hands-on activities such as screen printing, tie-dyeing, letter writing, and zine-making.

The Read & Resist Fest began in 2024 as a collaboration between local organizers and Interlink Publishing to create a space for community building, education, and organizing toward a more equitable world both locally and internationally. The first year drew over five hundred attendees, and the second year grew even bigger and better with grant funding from the Northampton Arts Council and Interlink Foundation.  This year’s festival will feature over thirty social justice organizations, including Western Mass Jewish Voice for Peace, Traprock Center for Peace and Justice, Demilitarize Western Mass, Pushcart Judaica, Great Falls Books through Bars, LUCE Immigrant Justice Network, Liyang Network Western Massachusetts, Belchertown Nipmuc Farm Conservation Alliance, Pedal People Coop, PM Press, Abolitionist Mail Project, Gaza Soup Kitchen, and many more.

The organizers of the festival stated, “We wanted to create a physical space where people who believe in social justice and collective liberation could come together, learn, and organize. After the 2024 election, more people have realized that injustice and oppression have been happening right here in our communities. It is more urgent than ever to come together and connect to work towards change. All of our struggles and those around the world are intertwined.”

10:00 am: Songs of Liberation

A Boston-based protest folk band, fronted by Palestinian American Juliet Salameh and dedicated to liberation in Falastine and liberation for ALL.

11:00 am: Socialism Storytime with Jacob Kramer

Jacob Kramer will give a sneak peak of his new book Wandermelon which follows a vine as it grows through a town, a dispute over delicious fruit, and the abundance that might be possible if we let nature take the lead.

1:00 pm: Arabic Music Storytime with Rhonda Roumani & Michel Moushabeck on the Drums

Rhonda Roumani is a Syrian American journalist who has covered the Arab world and Muslim issues for more than two decades. She is also the author of Umm Kulthum: The Star of the East, the Middle Grade novel Tagging Freedom (Union Square) and the picture book Insha’Allah, No, Maybe So (Holiday House).

2:00 pm: The Making of Revolutionary Feminism in El Salvador

Book talk by popular educator, historian, and professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Diana Sierra Becerra, author of The Making of Revolutionary Feminism in El Salvador.
