This winter, an unprecedented number of Amherst children need warm outdoor clothing. The Amherst Public Schools (ARPS) Family Center is once again organizing a winter clothing drive with the PGOs’ help. We are looking for donations of new (and gently used) winter coats for over 90 Amherst children, sizes pre-K through adult. We also need snow pants and boots, hats. Hats and waterproof mittens and gloves in new or excellent condition will be appreciated, too!

There are drop off bins located outside the front doors of each Amherst public school. Please make sure all donations are clean, are in good condition with zippers working and empty pockets; and put your donations in plastic bags.

Those who prefer to give money instead of clothing,  may donate online at tinyurl.com/coats2020 or send a check (payable to ARPS PGO) or gift cards to Tracy Zafian, ARPS PGO Treasurer, 51 Blue Hills Road, Amherst.

The organizers aim to finish collecting by Monday, December 14. Questions or requests for a  pick of donations,  can be directed to  arpspgo@gmail.com.

  1. Dear Amherst Indy: thank you for publicizing the ARPS Coat Drive. I wanted to let everyone know that there is a Signup Genius form where people can see what sizes have been requested most, and signup to give coats, etc.
    Here’s the link: tinyurl.com/coatsneeded
The Signup Genius page will be getting updated as additional requests from families are received.
Thank you, -Tracy Zafian (ARPS PGO Treasurer)
