The Carefree Cakery opened this week in the Mill District, 71 Cowls Road in North Amherst and will hold a grand opening celebration from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 12. According to owner Alysia Bryant, the ribbon cutting will occur around 11:15 a.m., but outdoor activities will continue into the afternoon featuring The Butterfly Swing Band and a dance-off contest in cupcake costumes, as well as a live D.J., and kids’ activities which may include decorating a fake cake. There will also be a drawing for a dozen free cupcakes for those who RSVP to the Facebook invitation.

Bryant said business has been brisk this first week, and that they have run out of baked goods prior to closing on several days. She said the challenge is how to ramp up production to fill all the display cases and meet customer demand. The bakery is open six days a week, from 10 a.m. To 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays. Cupcakes are $4 each or $15 for a 12 mini-cupcake sampler. Most cakes are available by special order and typically require two weeks notice. Some of the Cakery’s classic designs will be in the shop daily and may be purchased without a special order. The Cakery will custom design cakes, or customers can choose a “pre-designed” cake from the extensive gallery.  A gallery of cake designs can be viewed at https://www.carefreecakery.com/gallery

The Carefree Cakery strives to “combine a love of food, fun, and kindness by providing pure and ethical desserts that are beautiful to behold.” All of their goods are made completely from scratch. Because of this, it’s easy to modify recipes to accommodate different allergies and intolerances. The Carkery is a fair trade bakery. This means that while other companies source their cocoa, sugar, vanilla, and coffee from companies that cheat their farmers out of a livable wage, the Carefree Cakery carefully selects vendors that pay fairly for every bit of our raw materials.

  1. Since the Carefree Cakery opened last Tuesday I have visited this bakery everyday and have filled their frequent flyer card so that the next luxurious cupcake will be on the house. They are perfection; heaven on earth!

  2. Loved the fox and 💩one. Beautiful decorated cakes and cupcakes. Well done.
