Twenty-six Rallies Planned in WMASS Including Amherst and Northampton
Millions of people will take to the streets on Saturday, October 18 for the Second No Kings rally to protest President Trump’s assault on democracy and the rule of law. More than 2700 localities have registered for the event as of this writing (10/16), exceeding the first No Kings events on June 14, 2025 by more than 600. Twenty-six events are scheduled for Western Massachusetts including protests in Amherst, South Amherst, Hadley, and Northampton. Organizers are predicting a national turnout of 18 million people which would make the event the largest protest in U.S. history. The first No Kings drew an estimated 5 million people across 50 states.
Thirty percent of the No Kings #2 protests are in red states and the number of registered events in every state exceeds those for the first No Kings. California leads the nation with 284 registered events, Massachusetts is second with 154, New York is third with 129 and and deep red Texas is fourth with 110. And those numbers continue to grow.

This day of action is sponsored by Indivisible in collaboration with dozens of partner organizations.
The Purpose of No Kings
No Kings Day, comes amid Trump’s latest authoritarian escalations: sending militarized forces into U.S. cities, the continued abduction, detention, and deportation of immigrants, and the escalating violence on the part of masked ICE agents directed at journalists, protestors, bystanders, immigrants, and citizens. Trump is threatening to interfere with elections and is rigging maps to silence voters. He is gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most. He is driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle. He recently remarked that “a lot of people are saying, ‘maybe we’d like a dictator.’ This second No Kings mobilization is designed as a direct, non-violent rebuke to those authoritarian trends.
According to the organizers, a goal of the protest is to engage more people to take a stand against America’s slide into fascism. Lisa Gilbert of Public Citizen said, “We’ve seen in other countries in the world that the thing that enabled people to fight back was an activated populace. That’s what we’re trying to achieve here, just this groundswell of activation.”
