Award-winning, contemporary Western Massachusetts singer-songwriter Ralph Carson is the featured artist at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society’s November Song and Story Swap on Saturday, November 1. The event will take place at First Church, 165 Main St. at 7 p.m. Parking is available in the lot behind the church. Admission is free, with a suggested minimum donation to the artist of $7.50.
At song and story swaps, people of all ages and experience levels gather to share stories and songs that are
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story. Listeners are welcome. Attendees will be invited to contribute a song or story on the topic of
“Missing Our Loved Ones” during an opening round of sharing.
About the Artist
Ralph Carson was born and raised in Oklahoma, as is obviously evident in his music. But he is now a proud New Englander.
Singing and playing open mics and coffeehouses for many years, he tells tales of common folk and faulted characters, songs of red dirt and dry flatlands. His most influential sources are James McMurtry, Guy Clark, and
Robert Earl Keen, to name a few. He sometimes plays with his eyes open, but usually not.
