Town of Amherst Annual Spooktacular – Sunday, October 26
Get ready for a day full of fun and frights for the whole family! Amherst Recreation will be hosting their annual Halloween Spooktacular on Sunday, October 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event includes an exciting lineup of festive activities.
Downtown Trick-or-Treating
The event will kick off with Downtown Trick-or-Treating from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in collaboration with the Amherst Business Improvement District. Participating businesses will be identified by flyers displayed at their locations. Pick up a free paper trick-or-treat bag and a list of participating businesses at the Amherst Visitor Information Center (35 South Pleasant St) or the Amherst Recreation office (170 Chestnut St, Suite 1) beginning Monday, October 20.
Costume Parade
Show off your creative costumes at the Costume Parade! Participants should gather at 1:00 pm, with the parade officially starting at 1:15 pm on the North Common. All ages are welcome to join in the fun.
Haunted House & Kids Carnival
After the parade, Halloween Spooktacular continues at the Bangs Community Center (70 Boltwood Walk) from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Enjoy a variety of Halloween-themed activities including a haunted house, kid’s carnival, crafts, and not-so-scary story time with the Jones Library.

Trunk or Treat at The Mill District General Store, Wednesday, October 29
Bring the whole family for a Trunk or Treat at The Mill District General Store! Dress up in your best costume and enjoy a night full of laughter, community spirit, and spooky fun. Thank you to our Community Partners: Amherst Recreation Department and the Amherst Police Department.
Costume Contest
We will be collecting entries for our Costume Contest of MOST FESTIVE for a $50 Gift Card to The Mill District General Store & Local Art Gallery – Stop by our event booth and we will snag a photo of your costume. A winner will be selected from our panel of judges and contacted after the Trunk or Treat on October 31st, 2025.
