Local Singer-Songwriter Adam Sweet will be the featured performer at the Pioneer Valley Folks lore Society’s December Song and Story Swap. The event will be held on Saturay, December 6, at First Church, 165 Main St. in Amherst at 7p.m. Free parking is available in the lot behind the church. Admission is free, with a suggested minimum donation to the artist of $7.50.

Attendees will be invited to contribute a song or story on the topic of “sweet” during an opening round of sharing. The Song & Story Swap is open to members of the public of all ages. People of all experience levels gather to share stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story.  Listeners are welcome.

Adam Sweet is a seasoned music educator, historian, and creator with over four decades of experience in traditional and roots music. A graduate of Hampshire College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Musicology and Expressive Arts Therapy, Sweet opened his music studio the day after graduation in 1985 and has been contributing to the Western Massachusetts music community ever since.

A skilled violinist and mandolin player, Sweet’s expertise extends beyond performance to the rich history of American roots music. He is the President and co-founder of Mandolin New England, Inc., a nonprofit mandolin orchestra that brings free performances to communities across the region.

A recent recording project has been an album of songs inspired by recent news stories from Amherst entitled “Amherst Songs”, released on the online music platform Bandcamp. Adam Sweet is also an active writer, publishing posts at
