Photos of the Week: Scenes from the Iran War

We’re going to change things up a bit this week, and instead of featuring a local photographer, we are going to provide access to a few photo galleries offering scenes from the ongoing war in Iran.

Trump’s and Netanyahu’s war in Iran continues without a clear stated objective and hence without any indication of what might bring it to an end. The war has involved at least 20 other countries, is now actively being prosecuted in Lebanon as well as in Iran, and has had a tectonic impact on the global economy. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has invoked the prospect of reinstituting the draft and of using nuclear weapons. The war is now costing the United States at least $1 Billion/ day (with some observers estimating the cost of munitions alone was as high as $3 billion/day in the war’s first two days). It is hard not to notice the economics of the war, and its impacts at home, as Eric Morrissette points out elsewhere in this issue. And Amherst for Palestine, elsewhere in this issue, calls our attention to the horrific human costs of the war. But it is, sadly, all too easy to put the horrific toll of this war out of our minds while it is being contested at a distance. So we’re going to step back from our weekly feature of local photographs for a visual chronicle of this war of choice as a reminder of what is happening in our names. Most of the photos of the war are under copyright and can’t be reproduced here, but can be accessed via online galleries, so we have provided the link to those galleries. We’ll be back next week with our regular feature.
