FlixBus, North America’s fastest-growing intercity bus service, is expanding its Northeast network with the launch of a new route connecting Boston to Albany via Worcester, Amherst, and Northampton, starting April 16, 2026. This new service introduces FlixBus’s first direct, fast connection between Amherst and Boston, giving students at UMass Amherst and SUNY Albany a convenient and affordable way to travel to and from Boston.

The addition of this route to the FlixBus network reflects a broader trend: intercity bus travel is growing nationwide as more travelers embrace it as an affordable, reliable, and convenient transportation option.

Additional Details
This launch marks FlixBus’s first direct, fast service between Amherst and Boston, connecting UMass Amherst’s student population of over 30,000 with Boston’s greater transit network. Over a quarter-million college students live along this Boston-Albany corridor.

Greyhound, FlixBus’ sister brand, already serves Amherst in a Boston-Springfield route operated in partnership with MassDOT. Together, Greyhound and FlixBus meet in Amherst to offer riders connections across Massachusetts and beyond.
The new route increases the number of daily departures between Albany and Boston from three to four, strengthening FlixBus’s presence on one of the Northeast’s most popular intercity routes.

Service will operate five round trips per week. Passengers will enjoy affordable fares with modern onboard amenities: free Wi-Fi, guaranteed seating, and free luggage allowance.

“College campuses are some of the busiest travel hubs in the Northeast, with students frequently traveling between school, home, and nearby cities,” said Karina Frayter, head of communications at Flix North America. “This new direct connection between Amherst and Boston makes that trip more convenient and affordable for students at UMass Amherst, SUNY Albany, and other nearby campuses. At the same time, we’re adding another daily departure between Albany and Boston, giving travelers across the region more flexibility and easier access to the broader FlixBus network.”
