The Town of Amherst will host its annual Amherst Rubbish Roundup on Sunday, April 26 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. This community clean up event aims to bring residents together for a fun and impactful day of cleaning and beautifying our beloved town. Participants are asked to sign up by Sunday, April 19 at amherstma.gov/RubbishRoundup2026
All town residents and groups are invited to participate, including community organizations, businesses, families, neighborhood associations, student clubs, and religious communities. Whether signing up as an individual or with a group, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet neighbors and make a positive impact on our community. Together, volunteers can make Amherst cleaner, greener, and even more beautiful than it already is.
Volunteers will report to cleanup sites throughout Amherst including Mill River Recreation Area in North Amherst, Town Hall/North Common in Central Amherst, Groff Park in South Amherst, and any other areas suggested through the sign-up form.
Each site will be staffed by a team of captains with supplies, safety instructions, and assignments. Supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own work gloves and eye protection (safety glasses or sunglasses). Additionally, please remember to bring water, wear closed toe shoes, and apply sun protection for comfort and safety.
Last year, nearly 200 volunteers came together to collect 184 bags of trash and recycling as well as some fascinating “treasures” along the way, including a hydraulic suspension mechanism, a pair of green camouflage roller skates, a piece of sectional sofa, an old phone, hubcaps, a suitcase, a laptop computer, and even a faded love poem!
