Amherst Fire Department responded to an alarm at the Boulders Apartment Complex, 188 East Hadley Road, on August 6, 2026, at 8:31 p.m. The fire crew discovered a fire in an apartment on the second floor of building number #145 of the complex.  The fire was quickly extinguished; however, there was extensive smoke and heat damage to the apartment, which is now uninhabitable.

The fire appears to have started in the living room, which was being used as a bedroom. All residents of building #145 and #147 were evacuated for approximately two hours while the fire was brought under control and smoke was cleared from the buildings. The three residents of the second-floor apartment that experienced the fire were temporarily housed in another apartment by management. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but is not believed to be suspicious. There were no injuries. The Amherst Police Department and the town’s building inspector assisted at the scene.
