Some businesses open. Others land. Tilted Orbit is the latter.
Amy McDonough spent years watching pinball get written off as too niche, too nostalgic, too much a relic of somewhere else. She disagreed, quietly and persistently, the way people do when they’ve fallen for something the rest of the world hasn’t caught up to yet.
Then she opened her house. For several months, Amy ran Tilted Orbit Home Edition, welcoming the pinball community into her home to play her personal collection. No velvet rope, no cover charge. The community showed up, kept showing up, and made it clear that what she’d built was worth scaling.
Now it has a home of its own. Tilted Orbit opens this month at The Mill District in North Amherst with 40+ machines, a golf simulator room, food, and drinks, in a space where a first-timer and a tournament regular can walk in the same door and both feel at home. Amy chose Amherst not despite its character but because of it, betting that the Pioneer Valley is exactly the curious, weird, wonderful crowd that deserves a place like this.
