Groundbreaking Ceremonies For Jones Library Expansion and Amherst High School Track Reconstruction Slated for Next Week

Jones Library Expansion Groundbreaking
The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for the Jones Library Renovation and Expansion Project on Wednesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. outside of the Jones Library at 43 Amity Street.

This project includes rehabilitation of the Jones Library original building constructed in 1928, removal of the three-story rear addition built in 1993, and new construction of a three-story rear addition. The project will upgrade the building to meet current library standards. It will address critical safety and accessibility concerns; improve and expand children’s and special collections facilities; create dedicated space for ESL, teens, and important cultural artifacts; and transition the building toward Net-Zero by eliminating the use of fossil fuels and purchasing off-site renewable energy. 

Chairs will be available for attendees who need to sit. 

Amherst Regional High School Track Groundbreaking
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Amherst-Pelham Regional High School track and field reconstruction will take place on Monday, June 16 at 4 p.m. This will also serve as an opportunity to recognize the recent achievements of the school’s athletics teams.

The reconstruction will feature several significant improvements including a new eight-lane running track, new perimeter fencing, new LED field lighting system, a reoriented north-south playing field with a natural grass surface, and a second new playing field to be built west of the track. 

“This exciting project represents a significant investment in our students, our schools, and our broader community,” said Dr. E. Xiomara Herman (Dr.Xi), Superintendent of the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District.

The event is hosted by Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools, the Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee, and the Towns of Amherst, Pelham, Shutesbury, and Leverett.
