UMASS Amherst Earns 2026 Mass Save Impact Award

17 organizations to be recognized at the Massachusetts State House for advancing energy efficiency, helping customers save on energy costs and supporting Massachusetts’ clean energy future

BOSTON, MA (September 28, 2026) — The Sponsors of Mass Save today announced the recipients of the 2026 Mass Save Impact Awards, recognizing 17 organizations and communities across Massachusetts for their leadership in energy efficiency, electrification, building modernization and other initiatives that are helping shape a more sustainable and resilient Commonwealth with a focus on helping residential and commercial customers save on their overall energy costs. The recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Massachusetts State House on October 27, 2026.

This year’s recipients represent a broad cross-section of organizations helping shape Massachusetts’ future, including municipalities, healthcare providers, educational institutions, manufacturers, cultural organizations, retailers, and nonprofits. Through investments in energy-efficient technologies and sustainability-focused improvements, these organizations are improving operations, reducing energy use, and advancing Massachusetts’ clean energy goals.

The 2026 award recipients demonstrate how energy efficiency and decarbonization solutions can deliver meaningful benefits for businesses, municipalities, and communities. Collectively, the projects recognized through this year’s awards are expected to deliver net lifetime CO₂ emission reductions equivalent to the annual energy use of nearly 30,000 homes or more than 50,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for one year. These achievements reflect the broad and lasting impact that strategic energy investments can have on economic, environmental, and community outcomes.

The Mass Save Impact Awards celebrate organizations that are driving measurable progress through energy efficiency while helping create a cleaner, more affordable, and resilient energy future. Formerly known as Mass Save Climate Leaders, the initiative recognizes the broader range of impacts that energy efficiency, electrification, decarbonization, and building improvements can deliver. By embracing innovative technologies and implementing impactful projects, this year’s recipients are demonstrating how strategic energy investments can generate environmental, economic, and community benefits.

These organizations and municipalities made smart energy investments that lower their bottom lines through energy bill savings and create healthier buildings and communities,” said Energy Resources Commissioner Elizabeth Mahony. “When Massachusetts residents, organizations, and cities and towns make energy efficient upgrades to buildings and building systems, it can lower their ongoing energy costs and importantly, also reduce strain on our electric grid and save all ratepayers money.”

The projects undertaken by this year’s recipients demonstrate the many ways organizations across Massachusetts are advancing energy efficiency, from municipal building upgrades to large-scale electrification projects and other operational improvements. Together, these efforts are helping reduce energy use, lower emissions and build a more sustainable future for communities across the Commonwealth.

Examples of award-winning projects include:

• Agri-Mark, which completed eight energy efficiency projects over the past three years, including a mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) evaporator electrification project, will reduce natural gas consumption by an estimated 967 therms annually, equivalent to avoiding the greenhouse gas emissions that would arise from driving over 13 million miles in a gas-powered car. 
• The City of Quincy, which completed more than 100 projects across schools, the library, fire stations and other municipal facilities, achieving significant electricity and natural gas savings through upgrades such as building management systems, lighting improvements and heat pumps that will reduce the community’s footprint and energy costs.
• MASS MoCA, which improved energy performance at its North Adams campus through boiler replacements, air sealing and pipe insulation projects while continuing to explore additional energy-saving opportunities.
