Amherst-area students and families are invited to leave the car behind on Wednesday, October 7, and join communities across the country for National Walk & Roll to School Day.

The annual event encourages children and families to walk, bike or roll to school together, promoting physical activity, community connection and safer routes for students traveling to and from school. First held nationally in 1997, the event also draws attention to the importance of safe sidewalks, crossings, bike routes and other infrastructure that allows children to get to school safely without a car.

Students and families can join one of the organized groups below or make their way to school independently.
