The Amherst Public Art Commission is excited to announce a call for artists to participate in two inspiring public art initiatives: Electrify Amherst and the Town Hall Art Gallery. Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Interested artists can find submission details at amherstma.gov/call-for-artists

Electrify Amherst
“Electrify Amherst” began in 2018 as a program devised by the Amherst Public Art Commission and funded by the Amherst Cultural Council. This initiative aims to increase the presence of public art in Amherst and the Amherst Center Cultural District by inviting artists to create unique and imaginative paintings on utility boxes. Since it began in 2018, there have been 12 boxes painted across Amherst.

This fall, three artists will be selected to paint their designs onto designated utility boxes. Each selected artist will receive a $500 stipend plus the cost of painting supplies.

Artists can submit proposals for Electrify Amherst through Monday, September 22.

Town Hall Art Gallery
The Town Hall Art Gallery, managed by the Amherst Public Art Commission, features bi-monthly exhibits showcasing local artists at no cost to both the artist and visitors. Located on both the first and second floors of Town Hall, the gallery has space to display up to 18 objects. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays when Town Hall is closed.

The Public Art Commission continuously welcomes applications from artists interested in exhibiting their work. A variety of artistic media are welcome including paintings, drawings, photographs, multimedia compositions, or fabric works. The Public Art Commission hosts a public reception for each artist, providing an excellent opportunity to engage with the community and share their creative vision.

Interested artists can submit applications at amherstma.gov/call-for-artists
