Meet Kiera McLaughlin, the Indy’s New Intern

Kiera McLaughlin
The Indy is pleased to introduce Kiera McLaughlin, our new intern for the fall semester. Kiera is a senior at Mount Holyoke College studying politics, Spanish and journalism. During her time with the Indy she will be covering Regional School Committee meetings as well as working on feature stories rooted in the Amherst community. She is excited to also be helping the Indy to further expand their social media presence.
When she is not writing for the Indy, Kiera also works at The Mount Holyoke Newspaper as the editor of the global section. She is also the throwing captain on the track and field team and works as a language assistant for the Spanish Department. In her free time, you can often find her curled up on a common room couch, reading a fantasy book.
This is the fourth news outlet that Kiera has worked for during her time in college. Last semester she worked with Amherst Media, but this will be her first time covering a town committee and working for a progressive newspaper, which she is super excited about. Kiera has also interned at the Concord Monitor and the Keene Sentinel. Of her upcoming internship with the Indy she said, “Coming from a small town in New England, I know firsthand the importance of local news coverage, especially in unprecedented times like these. I’m passionate about education, healthcare, veterans and accessibility. Feel free to contact me at mclau23k@mtholyoke.edu.”
Kiera is one of two interns joining the Indy this fall. Read about our other intern, Norah Stewart, a sophomore journalism major at UMass, here.
Welcome to Keira and Norah – great to have you both on board!
