28th Annual High School Jazz Festival at UMass

The 28th Annual UMass High School Jazz Festival will be held at the Bromery Center for the Performing Arts, 151 Presidents’ Drive on the UMass Campus, on Saturday, March 28, and will host performances by regional high school vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles . UMass Jazz Faculty will serve as guest adjudicators & Chief Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott) will serve as guest clinician. Daytime events are free and open to the public.
The day begins with UMass jazz combo performances at 8:30 a.m. in both Tillis and Bezanson Halls, followed by high school combos in Bezanson and big bands in Tillis through 1:15 p.m. Participants include schools from Manchester, CT; Acton-Boxborough, MA; Stoughton, MA; Manchester, NH; Dudley, MA; Lexington, MA & Northfield, MA.
The afternoon session features a 2:30 p.m. performance by UMass Jazz Ensemble I, followed by a Chief Adjuah masterclass at 3 p.m., awards announcements at 3:50 p.m., and Jazz Ensemble I rehearsal with Chief Adjuah at 4:10 pm, all in Tillis Hall.
The Festival concludes with a Fine Arts Center concert with Chief Adjuah at 8 p.m. in Tillis Hall. This will be preceded by a 7:30 p.m pre-concert performance by two high school ensembles & the UMass Jazz Ensemble I, also in Tillis Hall.
