Be chilly and eat chili to support survivors and a violence-free community
AMHERST, Mass. — The Center for Women & Community (CWC) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites all to brave the elements for a powerful cause at its Chilly Challenge fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Puffer’s Pond off State Street in North Amherst from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The challenge is an annual event that began in 2021, during COVID pandemic isolation, to bring the community together while raising awareness and supporting services provided to those impacted by violence. Participants help raise awareness and funds in support of free Sexual Assault Support, Advocacy and Prevention Services in Hampshire County.

Organizers hope to attract at least 175 participants to this year’s Chilly Challenge. Last year, 140 participants joined the fundraiser; together with local business sponsors, they helped raise $7,000.
All are invited to take the plunge, just dip a toe in, cheer from the shore or choose a less chilly way to support by making a donation. Post plunge, warm chili, cider and desserts will be provided by UMass Dining. New for this year, organizers will crown three “Chilly Champions” who raise the most funds, generate the most participant involvement and awareness, and wear the liveliest costume.
The rain date for the event is Sunday, Nov. 15. Individuals and teams can sign up anytime; however, UMass Amherst students who need transportation must register by Nov. 13.
Local businesses can also lend their support by sponsoring the challenge. Registration and more information are available on the CWC Chilly Challenge 2026 website.
