While the season officially tips off in January, registration in now open for the Amherst Youth Basketball League (AYBL). Children in Kindergarten through 12th grade can find their place on a team, develop their skills, and grow alongside their peers. Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the first time or looking to take their game to the next level, AYBL offers everyone an opportunity to learn, participate, and feel a sense of belonging.

Accessible, Developmental and Home-Grown

These three words represent the values Amherst Recreation brings to AYBL.

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience what it means to be part of a team, build meaningful connections, and discover those exciting moments of growth that come from learning, problem-solving, and working together.

AYBL is about more than basketball. It’s about developing confidence, teamwork, communication, sportsmanship, and other valuable life skills that extend far beyond the court. When children succeed, grow, and build lasting connections through recreation, our entire community benefits.

An Opportunity to Become a Volunteer Coach

We encourage parents and community members to consider volunteering! Take an active role in your child’s experience by helping lead a team, encouraging young athletes, and making a lasting impact on the players you mentor, both on and off the court. Volunteers may also be eligible for a discounted registration rate!

For more information about AYBL or volunteer opportunities, please contact Jose Allen, Sports Director, at AllenJ@amherstma.gov.

Financial Assistance Available

Amherst families may be eligible for financial assistance to help cover registration costs. Please complete the subsidy application and provide either your most recent tax return or pay stubs for consideration.

You do not need to be an Amherst resident to participate in AYBL! We welcome families from surrounding communities to join us.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the court this January.
