Billions of cicadas have begun to emerge from the ground at the end of a 17 year cycle. Other varieties of cicadas emerge after 11 or 13 year cycles. This current group, the Brood X (or Brood 10) group, will not appear in Western Massachusetts which is just north of their range, but will appear as far north as New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Massachusetts residents can expect to see the emergence of the Brood 14 cicadas in 2025. For more on the cicadas look here. Find a map of the Brood X cicada emergence here.

Our feature, Photo of the Week, presents each week, a new picture by a local photographer. We invite local photographers to share their photographs here. Please include a description/caption and an indication of who is to be credited.
