With the annual Winterfest celebration canceled again this year due to the ongoing pandemic, the Business Improvement District has once again partnered with the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce and the Amherst Recreation Department to bring ice sculptures back to the Town Common. The sculptures can be viewed at a drive through event on Saturday, February 19 beginning at 5 p.m.

Sculptor Joe Almeida will carve ten woodland creatures, including a likeness of Amherst’s famed spotted salamanders. Focused lighting will enhance evening viewing. It is fortunate that the balmy spring temperatures of the latter part of the week gave way to more seasonable temperatures, so hopefully the sculptures will be able to be enjoyed for several days.

This will be the second annual ice sculpture display on the Common. Greenfield Savings Bank is the lead sponsor of the event.
