Peter Daou,  a survivor of the Lebanese civil war, former child conscript, and former US Democratic Party operative wrote on Twitter this morning in reference to the invasion of Ukraine that began last night (2/23), “As a survivor of a bloody Mideast war, there are no words to describe the terror of being a civilian under heavy artillery and missile attack.”

Others, posting on Twitter this morning have noted that Americans in particular may be unable to fathom what it is like to live in a war zone and to experience the transition from the peaceful and mundane to widespread, lethal devastation in a matter of minutes.

Several news services, offered us this morning, a glimpse of what life is like in Ukraine at the beginning of the invasion of that country by the Russian military.  We do not have permission to repost those photos here but we can offer you the links to several photo essays and encourage you to check them out.
