UMass Move-in Begins Thursday, Sept. 1

Student move-in begins at UMass on Thursday September 1 and will continue through Sunday September 4 from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. First-year students will begin move-in on Thursday, September 1 while move-in for new transfer students and returning students starts on Friday, September 2.

New this year is “Welcome to the U,” a month-long series of events, leadership opportunities and community building programs for students to explore the university. Welcome to the U kickoff events for all new and returning students also begin on Thursday, September 1. The full schedule of events can be found online here at or through the My UMass app, available for Apple or Android devices. With vaccination requirements and related COVID-19 testing protocols in place, the university is welcoming students for a new academic year that will include face-to-face instruction, full residence halls and an extensive set of student events and activities.

Highlights of Welcome to the U include:

Frosh Fest (Thursday, Sept. 1, 1-5 p.m., Student Union and surrounding areas): Activities will include musical performances, mini-golf, family rock painting, ice skating and more.

Kickoff Carnival (Thursday, Sept. 1, 7-10 p.m., Student Union South Lawn): Students can attend a classic carnival with food, inflatables and music.

New Student Ice Skating (Friday, Sept. 2, 2-6 p.m., Mullins Center Practice Rink): New students can reserve a spot on the ice and stay cool while making new friends. 

Athletics 101 (Friday, Sept. 2, 7 p.m., McGuirk Alumni Stadium): Catch the UMass spirit with UMass Athletics featuring inflatables, a swag swap, lawn games, music and more. 

New 2 U Tag Sale (Saturday, Sept. 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Newman Center Café): At this drop-in event, shop for new or gently used clothing, futons, lamps, TVs and more at affordable prices.

Dear World x Many Voices (Saturday, Sept. 3, 7 p.m., Mullins Center): The university’s Many Voices event gets an update this year as it pairs with Dear World, a three-part community building event happening throughout the day. Dear World x Many Voices will include performances and conversations about all the differences that together make UMass a strong and inclusive community.

New Student Convocation (Sunday, Sept. 4, 1 p.m., Mullins Center): Students will receive an official welcome from campus leadership.

UFest (Sunday, Sept. 4, 2:30-6 p.m., Goodell Lawn): Games, music, campus departments, food and fun will take place throughout the day.
