The fifteen Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) in Massachusetts are joining MassDOT’s Fare Free Pilot Program thanks to funding provided by the Massachusetts Legislature in the FY 23 budget. This means that PVTA (and FRTA and MART) fares for all fixed route buses and para-transit van service are prepaid from November 25, 2022 through December 31, 2022.  No fares or passes are needed to ride during this time.

  1. While it’s good to try this for a month, it’s even better to do this for several years! That’s because the latter better represents the time interval over which we choose a place to live and work, but also invest in a transportation mode allowing them to get between* both. Once folks invest in a personal car — rather than a transit system involving bikes and busses and trains— it’s very hard to “break the habit”!
