Information Sessions On New Elementary School
Do you want to know more about the proposed new elementary school at the Fort River site? Several information sessions have been scheduled over the month of March. These are opportunities to see a presentation about the net zero building and to ask questions. The vote for a Proposition 2 ½ debt exclusion override is scheduled for May 2. A Yes vote will allow the town to increase property taxes in order to pay for the school. The amount of the debt exclusion has not yet been determined, but is estimated to be about $55 million for the $98 million building. This would raise property taxes by about $500 annually for the average home in Amherst.
