Local Musician Adam Sweet Offers More Songs Based on Stories in the Indy

Adam Sweet

Local Musician Adam Sweet is back with three more songs based on stories that appeared originally in the Amherst Indy.

Sweet, a prolific songwriter whose focus is frequently the Pioneer Valley, released an album titled “Stories I Read in the Amherst Indy” in July 2025, with nine songs based on local news stories. Sweet has again turned to reporting in the Indy, to come up with three new songs.

“The Hard Way” is based on Jeff Lee’s piece on Great Barrington’s Ramsdell Library getting a crash course in what Amherst learned the hard way with the Jones Library expansion.

“Stone Soup Café (Everybody’s Seat), is based on “Chloe Spurr and Rowan Faris’s piece on Stone Soup Café’s red door on Hope Street in Greenfield.

Coronation Café (Room at the Table)” is based on the Indy’s report on Coronation Café extending its table, ahead of Thursday’s ribbon-cutting.

Sweet, a Hampshire College alum, who has composed several songs about Hampshire’s closing, enjoys gathering stories from people involved in the community and transforming them into something deeply meaningful for the community. “Writing a song is a lot like journalism. You have to talk to the people involved,” he said. He is co-founder of Mandolin New England, a non-profit that puts on concerts in the area, and is a devoted violin and mandolin teacher.
