Lou Conover, a candidate for Town Council from District 1 announced on October 5 that he was withdrawing from the race and throwing his support behind Jill Brevik incumbent Cathy Schoen. Two other candidates remain in the contest for two District 1 seats. They are Vince O’Connor and incumbent Ndifreke Ette
In his annoucement, Conover observed that people affiliated with the Political Action Committee Amherst Forward, have been fully in charge of the government since they came to power in 2018 and that the state of the town has steadily deteriorated under their leadership. He said that he chose to run for office, “hoping that along with other progressive councilors we might be able to steer the town government in a more inclusive, transparent, and fiscally responsible direction.” He said that when Schoen decided to enter the race at a late date, having previously stated that she would not seek re-election, he decided to throw his support to her and to Bevik with the hope of increasing the chances of electing two progressive candidates from the district.
