Democracy at the Microphone: A Conversation with Lulu Garcia-Navarro

Award-winning journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro will join Alex Theodoridis, Associate Professor of Political Science and co-director of the UMass Poll to discuss what Garcia-Navarro’s career at NPR and The New York Times‘s “The Interview” has taught her about conversations across political differences, public trust, democratic values, and why plural stories matter to a democratic society.

The event will be held in the Bernie Dallas room at Goodell Hall, 140 Hicks Way at UMass (View map) on Tuesday November 18, from Noon – 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all.

About the Speaker
Lulu Garcia-Navarro is a two-time Peabody Award-winning journalist with years of experience interviewing world leaders, authors, artists, and people living on the front lines of a changing world. She hosts the New York Times’s flagship franchise ‘The Interview’ where she has sat down with everyone from Vice President JD Vance to Miley Cyrus. A former longtime international correspondent in the Middle East and Latin America, Lulu was also at NPR for 17 years, most recently as the host of “Weekend Edition,”. She is also an on-air contributor to CNN.
