As students begin moving into the residence halls, Residential Life Student Services is alerting faculty and staff and the Amherst community to the impact around campus. Large groups of students will move in Tuesday, August 29 through Saturday, Sept. 2. The heaviest traffic on and around campus is expected Thursday, Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 1.

There will be significant delays entering, exiting and traveling around campus and in the local area. Additionally, some parking lots are affected and Parking Services will notify permit holders of these impacts.  Heavy congestion should be expected on campus, as well as heavy traffic leading into campus on Route 9 and Route 116.  Please consider not entering campus using the UMass exit on Route 116.

There will be two road closures Aug. 31 through Sept. 1 from 7:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.:

  • University Drive will be closed and will be used for move-in traffic only
  • Eastman Lane will be closed westbound at East Pleasant Street

Traffic exiting Southwest Residential Area and the Commonwealth Honors College will pass through Lot 71 behind the Whitmore Administration Building.

Drivers should proceed carefully as they travel around campus and pedestrians are asked to use pedestrian walkways and crosswalks.
