Public Hearing On Request To Demolish 1993 Addition To The Jones Library

A public hearing has been scheduled by the Amherst Historical Commission for Thursday, September 14 at 6:35 p.m. to consider a request to demolish the rear of the 1993 addition to the original Jones Library Building and other changes to the proptery. The hearing will be held virtually on Zoom. The meeting link can be found here.

The full scope of the hearing is as follows:
In accordance with Sections 3.1 and 3.2 of the Preservation Restriction Agreement between the Trustees of the Samuel Minot Jones Memorial Library and the Town of Amherst, the Amherst Historical Commission will hold a Public Hearing on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 6:35 PM to review the following major alteration per Exhibit F: Standard Restriction Guidelines: 43 Amity Street (14A-36) Jones Library – Request for changes to the site, including tree removal, changes to the building including demolition of the rear 1990s additions and replacement with new expansions and changes to the 1928 structure including new roofing material.
