Rally Against ICE: Thursday July 16 at Sweetser Park
There will be rally against ICE on Thursday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Sweetser Park, Lessey and Main Streets, Amherst. Participants are asked to bring signs and something to make noise. The event is sponsored by Free Speech for People, LUCE Immigrant Justice Network of Massachusetts, River Valley Democratic Socialists of America, Valley Families for Palestine, and Amherst for the People.
From the sponsors:
ICE is a rogue agency that is murdering our neighbors and violating our human rights and civil liberties. Every week, community members across the country are brutalized and dragged out of their workplaces, homes, and cars. People are tortured, deprived of basic needs, and dying in detention facilities. Young children are traumatized and separated from their parents.
And what are our representatives doing? Giving more funding to ICE. Giving more funding to the private companies that profit from detention facilities. Claiming that ICE keeps us safe.
Amherst police refuse to say that they would stop illegal ICE activity on our streets. State leaders refuse to end the remaining 287g agreement that allows ICE into state prisons.
We must demand justice for Joan Sebastian Guerrero, the 26-year-old father from Colombia who was shot and killed by an ICE agent on July 13 in Biddeford, Maine.
We must demand justice for Luis Gustavo Núñez Cáceres, Geraldo Lunas Campos, Víctor Manuel Díaz, Parady La, Renee Nicole Good, Luis Beltrán Yáñez–Cruz, Heber Sánchez Domínguez, Alex Pretti and all who have been killed, tortured, and brutalized by ICE.
Justice will only be served once ICE is abolished.
Come out to show your support and tell Congress to pass the MELT ICE Act now.
