Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman announced on November 17 the appointment of Hayley D. Bolton as the town’s new Director of Senior Services. The appointment is subject to review by the Town Council, which is expected to act within the next 14 days. Bolton is anticipated to begin in January.

Bolton is currently the Council on Aging director in the Town of Bernardston. As director, she oversees all Senior Center operations including planning and implementing programs and activities for seniors, coordinating interdepartmental programs, writing and managing grants, conducting outreach, and performing wellness checks. She is also responsible for managing a building that houses a nonprofit organization. One of her signature accomplishments was the creation of an emergency feeding program that she developed in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previous to working in Bernardston, Bolton was the food pantry coordinator at the Amherst Survival Center and, prior to working at the Survival Center, she served as the staff manager at Craig’s Doors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Bockelman said, “Ms. Bolton is thoughtful and seeks to see how she can make more voices heard. She has extensive experience in recruiting and managing volunteers with a broad range of skills. She is organized and communicates with patience, understanding, and active listening. She intends to bring her experience in outreach and sensitivity to socioeconomic issues to Amherst.”
