Amherst Regional High School graduate Ajmain Sharar has been named a recipient of the highly competitive Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship for 2026.
Sharar is one of only five students in Massachusetts and 200 students nationwide selected for the prestigious award. The scholarship will provide up to $40,000 over four years as he pursues a degree in engineering at the University of Michigan beginning this fall. In addition to financial support, the scholarship includes the opportunity to participate in a paid Amazon internship after his first year of college, providing valuable professional experience and mentorship from industry leaders.
As an aspiring engineer, Sharar has distinguished himself through academic excellence, leadership, community involvement, and a commitment to using technology to make a positive impact.
“As an aspiring engineer, I am passionate about innovating and creating technology that will make an impact on the world,” said Sharar. “I am honored to receive the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship because it not only helps me finance my education but also provides me with an opportunity to change the world. I am excited for what the next four years of my life will bring, but particularly next summer where I hope to learn more from the talented individuals working at Amazon and bring my own perspective to a team.”
Recipients of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship are selected through a rigorous process based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals, and financial need.
The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Districts celebrate this achievement as a reflection of both Sharar’s’s hard work and the strength of the educational opportunities available to students throughout the district.
“We are incredibly proud of Ajmain for earning this prestigious recognition as an Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship recipient. It is an honor that reflects not only his academic excellence but also his perseverance, innovation, and commitment to the future of technology.”, said Amherst-Pelham Regional School District Superintendent E. Xiomara Herman.
